U.S. Launches Tariff Import Limit on Steel and Aluminum Products

The US Trump administration dumped the steel and aluminum products on the United States market at a low price on March 23 local time and threatened the security of the United States. It officially announced the start of special import restrictions and imposed high tariffs on steel and aluminum products. Japan was also identified as one of the tax targets.

According to the report of NHK TV station in Japan, at 10 o'clock on the evening of March 28th, Japan’s economic industry Shigekoshi Koichi and U.S. Trade Representative’s Office (USTR) held a telephone conversation on behalf of Let Shizzle. The talks lasted about 20 minutes. Shi Nong Hongcheng expressed regret at the fact that the United States initiated special import restrictions and then again requested the United States to waive the tariff restrictions on Japanese steel and aluminum products.

Wright Hillzer explained to Shi Nong Hongcheng the Trump administration's position on this matter and stated that this special tariff was designed to protect American national security. According to reports, the talks did not draw any definitive progress.

In order to enjoy the tariff exemption, the Japanese government will continue to initiate applications to the United States. The Japanese government plans to apply for a waiver from the United States in accordance with the detailed product list in the form of an appeal to U.S. companies that use Japanese steel and aluminum products, in order to make Japanese steel and aluminum products indispensable.
