Paris requests the United States to unconditionally exempt the EU steel and aluminum tariffs

At 0:01 a.m. local time on May 1, the United States expired its decision to temporarily waive the tariff on imported steel and aluminum products（3004 aluminum plate on sale） against the European Union and other economies. Subsequently, the French Foreign Minister Ledrienne and the Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Lemel issued a joint statement that France will continue to demand that the United States unconditionally exempt the EU steel and aluminum import tariffs.

France will continue to advocate that the United States provide the EU with a comprehensive and long-term unconditional exemption from tariff policies. After Trump announced that it delayed the decision on EU-Aluminum's tariff exemption, the European Commission issued a statement saying that the U.S. decision has left the market with uncertainty, which has affected business decisions. The European Commission also emphasized that the EU should be completely and permanently immune from these measures and that national security cannot be justified. The EU also expressed its willingness to discuss market access issues that are of current interest to both parties. However, it also made it clear that it will not be negotiated with any requirements. Any future transatlantic cooperation plan must be balanced and mutually beneficial.

At the end of March, the United States imposed tariffs of 25% and 10% respectively on imports of steel and aluminum（3003 aluminum foil on sale）. At the same time, the White House temporarily waived these tariffs to the EU countries until May 1. The European Commission strives for the United States to permanently waive new import tariffs for all EU countries.
